What is the instruction you got from your music instructor the most? Listen. The importance of ''listening'' plays a huge role of the process in learning music. Not only listening to yourself, but listening to others and to be able to analyze the performance, is an essential training we emphasize in teaching our kids.

During late February and early March, C-Harmony started a fun music activity among our piano students - The Music Chain Game. A short piece was given a week prior to the music event. During the game, students who were enrolled would record themselves playing 1-4 measures of the piece one after the other, and post the video in the group chat. The goal is to let the students to be able to start playing in the middle section of the piece, and to listen to others performance and try to follow the flow. After the activity and during their own private lessons, the students would analyze their own clips and as well others. The feedbacks from the kids are amazing! The kids would tell us what they did wrong, what they could improve and what others could improve. The progress is astonishing!

Practice is the key to success in learning music, and practice wisely is even more crucial.

We often see a lot of students coming to the class with struggles of how to practice wisely at home. They often spend quite a huge amount of time sitting in front of their music instruments, playing the pieces over and over again, but not knowing what is the emphasis on this practice routine. At the end of the day, what would happen? Discouragement, tears and tantrums, teachers' disappointment. Bad cycle goes on and on. Students lost interest to music, and this is not something we would want to happen, right?

Music Chain Game is designed not only to train the ability of listening, but to be able to organize and play through the piece not only from the beginning but in random spots. To be able to play through the piece even without starting from the first measure, students need to understand and master each and every measure. The Music Chain Game is to encourage students to break their practice bad habits, and to enhance their abilities.

Please see how our students performed in the second music chain game. This time they were given the piece - Pop Goes The Weasels by John Thompson.

Isn't this fun? Students not only enjoyed the process but we also see progress in their performance. In C-Harmony, we look for different ways to support our students, and we are not slowing down!

Please see our event page for more information! A lot of exciting activities are coming up!
