Playing any scales and arpeggios with the proper technique ensures easy and fluid movement without physical discomfort. After you are familiar with every scale, you will find yourself being able to quickly identify key signatures and recognize patterns while playing pieces. Learning arpeggios can also help you learning chord structure in your music. Moreover, playing scales and arpeggios can help you build finger strength and dexterity, hand flexibility and coordination.
All that being said, scales, finales and arpeggios are essential parts in learning music, not only in piano but each and every instrument. (excluding rhythmic percussion instrument) Scales practice is required to all different levels of player - from students to Maestros.
Practicing scales and arpeggios can also prevent injuries! Most injuries cam from improper use of your muscles due to weak muscles in your fingers. With proper training, musicians will know how to use their finger muscles properly and prevent themselves getting injured! Just like athletes!
